Yoga Etiquette: Make The Best Of Your Practice

Here are some suggestions to help you (and others) most fully enjoy your practice.

Turn off, tune in. Please turn off all phones, pagers and electronic devices before you enter the building. This helps ensure that the tranquil environment is not disturbed and allows you to leave outside stressors, well… outside!

Arrive early. This will allow you to register for the class, gently stretch or meditate before class and set your intentions at a leisurely pace. Please do not enter class late or leave early. This can disrupt other’s practice.

Respect the tranquility. Others may be in massage session or meditating before class, so we ask that you keep your conversation softly spoken.

Set your intentions. Establish a goals or goals and set your intent to enjoy your practice and then be open for whatever results occur. Remember, set your intent then let go of the outcome!

Inform. Please be sure to inform your instructor about any injuries or constraints you might need to observe. Instruction is hands-on but may not be best if you are nursing an injury.

Food and water. Drink lots of water, but do not eat for a few hours previous to your class. And it might not be a bad idea to use the restroom before class begins.

Be easy with yourself. Focus on the breath and the poses will come. Respect your limits and don’t compete. It is much easier to stay well than recover from an injury.
