Myofascial Release FAQ
Why is Myofascial Release so effective?
MFR gains its efficacy by addressing the fascia, not as just a tissue,
but as a system. Restrictions in the fascial system go unnoticed by
other tests such as x-ray and MRIs and can only be detected by the
trained Myofascial Release Therapist.
Once these restrictions are noted, specialized techniques
are used to slowly stretch the fascia until it changes from a hardened
glue-like consistency to that of a gel. If these restrictions are not
addressed, pain, lack of range of motion and distorted postural
imbalances result. The majority of clients that try MFR have been
through multiple tests, procedures and physical therapy programs with
little or short-lasting results while drug after drug has been used
to address the symptoms. MFR addresses the cause. Therefore,
healing ensues instead of chasing symptoms from session to session.
Why do MFR sessions cost more than regular massage?
Because of its efficacy and direct work on the cause of pain,
one can accomplish desired results much faster and in fewer
sessions than other therapy modalities. So, the overall
cost of your treatment program may be even less than other
forms of treatment.
What do I wear to my session?
You should bring a pair of loose fitting shorts and an
athletic top or a two-piece bathing suit to your initial
session for treatment and evaluation. Your MFR Therapist
will be looking for postural imbalances and other clues to
determine the best course of treatment. To best do that,
minimal clothing while still protecting your modesty is
necessary.
How often should I get a treatment?
This depends on what kind of results you want to see.
For faster, more thorough results you are encouraged to
do two appointments per week for two to three weeks.
Because the fascia tends to regress between sessions, you
should keep your appointments closely spaced to minimize
this effect. To further decrease the regression, you will
receive a Home Therapy Exercise Program. In most cases,
client follow through with their home routine greatly
increases their progress.
